Behind the design
Gifted to Harry by Fred and George Weasley, The Marauder's Map became his indispensable guide to exploring every inch of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Our design features the iconic red ink cover that appears when the daring witch or wizard speaks the incantation 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good'. Inspired by ink drawings from medieval maps, Miraphora illustrated a walled fortress around the title to reflect the wizarding school's ancient origins and used handwritten script to reveal the nicknames of the map's cunning creators.

Gifted to Harry by Fred and George Weasley, The Marauder's Map became his indispensable guide to exploring every inch of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Our design features the Marauders' insulting message to Professor Snape and the caricature that appears when the Potions Master attempts to reveal the map's secrets. Designed to look as though the teenage Marauders had scrawled the unflattering image of their classmate, Miraphora experimented with several cartoon versions of Snape's portrait before finally basing the caricature on Alan Rickman, who portrays the formidable character on-screen.

Our design features the iconic phrase used by the daring witch or wizard to hide The Marauder's Map's secrets from prying eyes. Surrounded by anonymous footprints, the incantation is written in the same style as the swirling text used to create the interior of the map, mirroring the artefact's ability to reveal the movements and location of the castle's inhabitants.
