MinaLima Wallpaper

USEFUL INFORMATION

This guide is provided to help you correctly hang your new MinaLima wallpaper. Please read carefully prior to cutting or hanging this product.

The pattern match will determine where the pattern joins at each side of a panel of wallpaper. Don’t forget to allow for the pattern match and repeat to ensure you have enough rolls to complete your project.

Pattern match definitions are as follows:

  • Random Match is where there is no pattern to match at the joining edge and wallpaper panels can be aligned at any point.
  • Straight Match is where the design repeats horizontally from panel to panel. All the panels will line up the same point at the ceiling line and join at the same place on the next drop of wallpaper.
  • Drop Match is where the design repeats diagonally from panel to panel. The patterns of drop match designs must be lined up both vertically and horizontally. Drop match can be either of the following:
    • Half Drop is where the pattern match from side to side drops down exactly one half of the pattern length before repeating. Every other panel will line up the same point at the top of the ceiling line. This style of drop match can require three panels to see the full pattern repeat.
    • Multi Drop is where the pattern match from side to side drops down by a specific measurement, e.g. 1/3 of the pattern length, across multiple rolls before repeating. This style of drop match can require four panels to see the full pattern repeat.

TIP: For Drop Match wallpaper, try writing the number in pencil on the back of each strip to keep track of the order in which each panel should be hung.

PREPARING YOUR WALLS

Before you start, make sure all wall surfaces are in a good condition. They should be clean and dry with any traces of dirt, old wallpaper or loose material removed from the area to be covered. Any cracks or irregularities should filled with a suitable filler to create a level surface for hanging your wallpaper. If papering onto a freshly plastered wall, we recommend painting with a suitable primer prior to hanging. This will ensure that the paste adheres sufficiently to the paper.

Please note: Our deluxe wallpaper is not suitable for rooms which produce a lot of steam.

HANGING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1: MEASURE AND PLAN WHERE TO START

The first panel of wallpaper must be applied straight as every subsequent drop will be affected by the placement of the first. You can choose to hang the first drop from either a corner of the room, a window, door frame, or where there is strong natural light. With a pencil, mark the wall at the papers edge and, using a spirit level or plumb line, draw a vertical line all the way down the wall. This will help you to line up your first drop as straight as possible.

STEP 2: APPLY THE WALLPAPER PASTE TO THE WALL

Apply the paste-the-wall wallpaper paste directly to the wall with a paste brush or roller. Paste beyond the pencil line to allow for repositioning if you need to make any adjustments to the panel.

STEP 3: APPLY THE WALLPAPER TO THE WALL

With the adhesive pasted on to the wall, the wallpaper can be hung straight from the roll. Use a ladder to hang the first panel from the top of the wall (below any coving/moulding) to the bottom of the wall. Allow a little extra wallpaper at the top to ensure that the full height of the wall is covered across the width of the drop. For now, leave the attached roll on the floor. If you need to reposition, do so gently and whilst the adhesive is still wet.

STEP 4: SMOOTH OUT THE WALLPAPER

Smooth down the paper with a soft dry cloth or soft bristled brush working outwards from the centre, down the length of the drop to the skirting board. Doing this will reduce any bubbles that have formed between the paper and adhesive. Be careful to avoid overworking as this can cause the paper to stretch and make matching the next drop difficult and may remove ink from the paper. Carefully trim the excess from the top and bottom of the roll with a sharp knife.

STEP 5: PASTE AND REPEAT

Continue to paste the wall section by section and hang each drop from top to bottom according to the pattern match repeat. Each panel should be hung with a butted seam so that each edge is touching the next but not overlapping. Avoid leaving long periods of time in between hanging each panel to achieve a better finish. Once all drops have been hung, ensure that any excess paste has been gently wiped from the surface of the paper.
