Behind the design
Concealed from the Muggle world inside the Woolworth building in New York, MACUSA is the wizarding governing body of the United States of America, dealing with everything from magical law enforcement to wand permits. Our design features the gleaming insignia with its triumphant phoenix motif rising from the flames and emblazoned with the stars and stripes of the United States. Inspired by the Great Seal of 1782, MinaLima designed the crest as a magical twist on real American iconography, including forty-eight stars to represent the number of US states in the 1920s; some which have broken free from the flag to glitter around the phoenix like wizards on broomsticks.
